Who I Am.

I am Alak, co-founder of Elements Truffles. My story is about my journey from wall-street to clean eats. I was a trader at Goldman Sachs. While all was going well, a sense of purpose was missing. Something within me kept nudging me to follow my passion for good food. Growing up in India, Ayurveda was at the core of our lifestyle. However, I never appreciated it. Only after migrating to the US and running into some health issues, my eating habits changed. As I started making changes, I realized I was going back to my root – Ayurveda. I was fascinated by how scientific and natural it was. We wanted to bring this beautiful science to the world in a fun and approachable manner. So that’s when we combined Ayurveda with our favorite food – chocolates. And Elements Truffles was born.

Tell us in your own words why you do what you do, keep this positive and relevant including the passion and vision you had to live this new life you have created for yourself.

I feel so fortunate and grateful to have the opportunity to follow my dream and watch it unfold. For me, my inner voice had become so loud that there was no way I could ignore it. And I did not want to live a life of regrets. Had I never given this a shot, I would have never known what it would have been like to live the dream and make an impact. As we started the company, we decided to build in a the pillars of sustainability and giving back. These are the pillars that keep us motivate and going even today. We source our cacao directly from the farmers and give back 25% of our profits for education of children in India. Knowing that we are making a positive impact on the lives of people on both ends of the supply chain feels extremely empowering.

What was it that prompted the change in your journey?

I credit my daily meditation practice that prompted and empowered me to make this big change. My daily practice of breath-work and meditation, enabled me to connect to that voice that is within all of us – guiding
us to our true north. Often this voice gets lost in the chaos of life. I tried to ignore this voice thinking it was just a phase, it was not real or that I was just looking for a change. But this voice kept on getting louder to the point where I could not ignore. And while, the inner voice made it clear what I needed to do, it was yet again my meditation practice that gave me the strength to take the leap of faith into the unknown.

Is a life goal important to you and how would you define this?

If I leave a world better than the one that I was born into that would have been a successful life.

Why is it important to follow your dream and what have you share from this?

I would say, yes and no. While it is important to move towards a goal, we often forget to enjoy the journey in getting there. And once you reach the goal, the mind is already working on the next goal. So I would. say, my life goal is to enjoy the journey while getting to the several goals we set in our life.

Why is it important to follow your dream and what have you share from this?

Because, not everyone is fortunate to have the opportunity to live their dream. I have several generations of my family to be grateful for, because of their hardwork and sacrifices, today I have the opportunity to pursue and follow my dream. And if I don’t do that, it is a wasted opportunity. And what is that is really stopping us from following our dream. Quite often it is the fear – the fear of failure, the fear of being judged or the fear of loosing something. One thing I have learned from being on the amazing journey is to face these fears, get comfortable being uncomfortable and you will realize there is a whole new beautiful world waiting for you that you had not even imagined in your dreams. Go follow your dream, it is so worth it !

Where do you go from here, what does the future hold?

Honestly, I have no idea. I will continue to focus on bringing these
products to more and more people and establish a business model that successful business can be built around empathy, impact and sustainability.
